Bass Notes: The Flat Music Symbol
The sharp music symbol is not the only way to describe the notes in between the natural notes.

Instead of
"The note higher than the A"
you could also say:
"The note lower than the B"
In bass music theory there is a symbol for this too. It is called the flat symbol.
Symbol: b: pronounce ‘flat’ half lower.
Take a look at this next example of bass sheet music. It shows how the A, A sharp, B flat and B note written in sheet music. Listen to the included bass music notes. The A sharp and B flat are the same note! Two names for the same note.
