Dallas Moore band's bassist bob rutherford rocks the midwest with ashdown engineering amps
PEKIN, Ind., - As the Dallas Moore Band recently rocked its way through the Midwest, bassist Bob Rutherford took along Ashdown Engineering amplifiers to help him put the "hard" back in hard-core country. Long a fan of Ashdown founder Mark Gooday's retro designs and great-sounding gear, Rutherford turned to the Ashdown RPM1 Bass Preamplifier and the Ashdown ABM-810 speaker cabinet when it came time to downsize his 2,000-pound rig of bass gear, and the products are now a regular part of his studio and touring equipment inventory. "The EQ is set up so that the knobs create ease at the sweet spots where they are needed," Rutherford says about one of his favorite features of the equipment. "The Ashdown products are a cool marriage of high tech and old school. They have just what you need to get the job done, sound great and rock real loud."
{16040.jpgr The sound of the Ashdown RPM1 has a wide range of clean and warm tones and is "much less sterile" than past products Rutherford has used. "I kind of felt guilty because I didn't need to walk back and tweak the rig throughout the show," continues Rutherford. "It sounds great no matter what. I can walk into a venue where we haven't done a sound check, grab a bass and let it rip. It always sounds cool." The Ashdown equipment performs "absolutely flawless," Rutherford states. "It has added to the entire stage vibe that the band and the audience experience when we perform. I like to announce my presence with authority and my Ashdown rig at about 100 dB does just that!" Rutherford has recommended the amps to other live bass players and the response has been unanimously positive.
"Ashdown Engineering gear is great-sounding, durable and it looks cool," Rutherford concludes. "I'm able to hear myself on big stages with half the gear I was carrying before, it shakes the stage and sounds good no matter what."
The ABM1's inputs for active and passive instruments are metered by a classic illuminated VU, and a wide range of clean and warm, fat sounds are achieved by a variable blend of dual triode tube and solid state input stages. In addition to Ashdown's classic blue panel and illuminated vintage VU, the preamp also has a blue LED mute indicator and a stunning, car-style starter button.
