Jazz Reharmonization: Tritone Substitutes Example
This next sheet music and sound example is the easiest example of how the Tritone Substitute actually works. Try playing this exercise on your piano or keyboard and you will immediately hear what the tritone substitute technique is all about.
The first part uses the standard G7 and C major chord. In the second part the G7 is replaced by a similar sound chord but one that you would not expect in a C major scale.
