Line 6 announces GuitarPort jam along with CDs, MP3s WAVs using Windows
Line 6, inventors of digital modeling guitar amplifier technology, announced the release of GuitarPort, the first product that enables consumers to utilize Line 6’s wide range of award-winning guitar tone to jam along with CDs, MP3s and WAV files using any Windows-based computer. The optional GuitarPort Online membership adds exclusive recordings and remixes from legendary artists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, along with online access to lessons, tracks, artist interviews/bios, user forums, tone libraries, music news, and tablature. GuitarPort integrates revolutionary patent-pending hardware and software technologies to provide guitarists with the first product to provide access to hundreds of tracks to jam along with, while adjusting the guitar tone properly for each song. For example, if a guitarist selects “Purple Haze,” GuitarPort will set the guitar tone to match the original sound, while allowing the guitarist to “fill-in” for Jimi Hendrix in an exclusive remix of the original recording with his guitar removed.
“GuitarPort was created as the first product to enable the millions of guitarists around the globe to have a compelling, interactive musical experience anywhere there is a computer,” says Marcus Ryle, co-founder and chief product strategist. “We have worked diligently to develop a product that provides unmatched sound quality and music offerings, while also protecting copyright holders. Song and recording rights holders are protected by our proprietary hardware encryption system that is unique for each unit, and pays royalties based on each member’s actual song usage. At the same time, we keep this system transparent to members by allowing them unlimited song downloads.”
Additional GuitarPort Features: • 10 legendary guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet models • Guitar effects, including compressor, delay, chorus, flanger, tremolo, rotary speaker, room and spring reverb • MP3, WAV, and Audio CD playback, plus looping and half speed without changing pitch • 24-bit converters and 32-bit processing • Line level and headphone outputs • Built-in chromatic tuner • Complete guitar tone solution for use with PC recording software
Another unique feature is CD Tone Link. This allows members to utilize GuitarPort Online’s song database to play along with their own CDs while GuitarPort automatically selects the right guitar tone for the song. “At Line 6, most of us are musicians and realize that arranging schedules and lugging gear around to jam with others is not always convenient,” says Doug Provisor, vice president online services, Line 6. “We are pleased to offer consumers the one product that brings everything a guitarist needs right to their home computer—even online lessons and tools for those just starting out.”
GuitarPort recently received the Musikmesse International Press Award (m.i.p.a.) 2002 for Most Innovative New Product at Musikmesse, the world’s largest musical instrument/pro audio convention, held annually in Frankfurt, Germany.
