Metal Guitar: Power Chord Riff Exercises
This next rhythm is a typical rhythm for metal guitar but, it is a little more difficult as you may think. The chords are not just played, you also have to make sure each of the chords has a certain length.
First try playing some of the exercises with this rhythm from tab or sheet music.
First try playing the riff without the rests, next try playing it with the rests. The chords are not that difficult, this is about get your right/left hand technique right.
There are two ways you can learn these rhythms, by playing them from sheet music and counting, or by playing them by ear. I suggest you try and learn both. And you will see which one works better for you. Although 1 of these methods may be more difficult at first, just keep trying to use both. They are both useful techniques if you want to learn your favorite riffs in the future.
