Reading Cello Sheet Music: The Bass or F Clef Symbol
Now that you know how to count the note names in cello sheet music we need to try and remember the notes and try to figure out where to start with counting. As mentioned before each type of sheet music has a reference note. For the cello this is the F note, just like for many of the lower instruments.
The Bass Clef or F Clef is the sign used in the beginning of the bar, this symbol is used to describe how to read the sheet music. If you look closely you will find that when trying to 'write' this symbol you would start with a big dot on the 2nd line of the sheet music.
If you look closely there are also two small dots on each side of the 2nd line. And the symbol even looks like an F.
Remember this! It means you will start counting notes from the 2nd line 'The F Line'. Every note on this line is an F! Hence the name F-clef. Take a look at the next sheet music and cello sheet music chart with the note names again. Don't try to memorize alll the notes yet, we have a very good sheet music reading game for that. Just try to understand how the notes are counted with the lines, up and down.
