Rocking Yamaha RGX Electrics Play Well for Dealers and Guitarists

Due to increased demand, Yamaha Corporation of America will show its entire line of RGX electric guitars at Winter NAMM 2001. Introduced throughout 2000, these axes offer great sound, popular features and options, and incredibly attractive prices for the beginning or seasoned rock guitarist.

"With each model introduction, both music dealers and musicians couldn't wait to get their hands on the next RGX electrics," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "Yamaha is fortunate to have such a line that not only sounds and looks great, but also fills the gaps for our dealers—everyone from beginners looking for that first rock guitar to professionals who are looking for a new instrument. Best of all, RGX won't break the budget."

The RGX121S offers a versatile pick-up configuration (two humbucking and one single-coil), sealed tuners and a user-friendly standard tremolo system, making it ideal for new players. It also features a Solid Alder body, Maple neck, Bubinga fingerboard and natural finish headstock, with black hardware and a satin black finish completing its modern look.

The entry-level ERG121U features the sleek styling of the RGX and sports a solid Basswood body with two humbucking pick-ups in the neck and bridge position, a single-coil pick-up in the middle position, vintage tremolo, Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard, and chrome tuners. Available in a gloss black finish, the guitar also includes a Yamaha gig bag.

The Solid Alder body RGX420S features a double-lock tremolo system, popular pick-up configuration (two humbucking pick-ups with no covers), angled headstock, flat-shaped Maple neck, 24-fret Rosewood fingerboard, and is available in black matte and several gloss finishes. A Drop 6 version, the RGX420D6, contains all the features of the RGX420S, with the addition of longer scales and special string gauge for down-tuning. Players may tune to B below standard E without having to change right-hand attack and left-hand finger positions.

The signature Ty Tabor RGX-TT features a double cutaway Basswood body with radical contours and a distinctive raised, Figured Maple center platform. The fast Maple neck sports a slick Rosewood 22-fret fingerboard and easy-view position markers. The 12-degree angled headstock features a "3D" design with three tuners per side, straight string pull, and durable black Sperzel Tremlock hardware. Duncan® Vintage Rail neck and middle pick-ups, Duncan JB bridge pick-ups, and Wilkinson® VS100 Tremolo complete this rocking package.

The RGXTT D6 "Drop 6" shares the same construction, materials and cosmetics with the RGXTT model. Unique features include a longer 26.25-in. scale, heavier string gauges and a stepped Maple center (Tapered Tune System)—important to the frequency Q with a strong focus on the low-mids. Its design is based on the popular down-tuning trend that is at the heart of modern music's heavy sounds.

"The RGX models are more than just your basic rock guitar," states Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "They have the look, feel and sound that will convert anyone who is 'on the fence' about purchasing a Yamaha electric."
