The 16 Bar Blues in Jazz
The 12-bar is the most popular blues format, but there are many variations possible and used. These include 8 bar,12 bar, 14 bar, 16 bar and 24 bar blues forms.
In jazz the 16 bar blues is used a lot too. The 16 bar (2 x 8) sometimes make more sense in jazz since jazz relies a lot on 8 chord parts.
Let’s have a look at an example of the 16 bar blues. Note that the variations like 7th chords are just an example the roots of the chords are important to remember.
