Yamaha Unveils Finger Picker Series Guitars
The increasing influence of world music and the renewed interest in traditional musical styles has allowed the unique Fingerstyle genre to grow and flourish among guitarists. Finger players and strummers, traditionalists and innovators, now have new instrumental options with the introduction of Yamaha's Finger Picker Series at Winter NAMM 2001. A combination of unique string spacing, an integrated mic/pickup system and natural sound produce the distinctive, warm textures of Folk, Blues, Country, Country Rock and contemporary Fingerstyle repertoires. Two models, the FPX300 Steel and FPX300N Nylon will be available in February 2001.
Both instruments feature string spacing specifically designed to yield optimal articulation: the FPX300 string configuration is slightly wider than a traditional acoustic. Conversely, spacing on the FPX300N is slightly narrower than that of a two-nut of a concert classic. Both guitars have slotted peg heads and the unique FS body styling.
"Because we listen to the wants and needs of musicians, Yamaha acoustic guitars have developed a real following," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group. "The Finger Picker series will satisfy a segment of the market that has always had a predisposition to a unique set of guitar specifications."
The non-cutaway body of the FPX300 and FPX300N boasts a solid Cedar top, solid Andes Rosewood sides and back, Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and a Mahogany neck. A satin finish completes the instruments' stylish look. The integrated System 41 pickup, combining an in-bridge piezo and gooseneck-mounted condenser microphone strategically located over the soundhole, results in a natural acoustic-electric sound.
"These are instruments for serious players," adds Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "Fingerstyle playing—probably the most innovative style out there—demands a quality instrument, and these two will fill that need nicely with the right string spacing and a pickup system that delivers the best acoustic-electric sound around."
